Will there be an Omnibus of Azzarello’s Wonder Woman run?

On December 2nd, 2014, /u/thatonesillymexican asked the following on /r/DCcomics:

Is there any word on if Azzarelo’s Wonder Woman will be collected in an omnibus or would it be better to just pick up the trades?

Well, the short answer is, we don’t know. There’s been no word yet, but that, of course, doesn’t mean there hasn’t been speculation.

UntitledThere’s a Tumblr called The Omnibus Collector – no prizes for guesses the blog’s subject matter – which has actually written about this back in May 2014.

An anonymous posted asked:

You seem to be more knowledgable about Marvel’s publishing plans than DC’s, but I don’t know whom else to ask, so – Do you think Gail Simone’s New 52 run on Batgirl, Geoff John’s/Jim Lee’s New 52 run on Justice League, and Brian Azzarello’s run on Wonder Woman will be collected in larger hardcover editions like an omnibus? I’ve noticed that all three of those series have at least one hardcover volume that has gone out of print already, and I’m not just really a fan of collecting paperbacks…

This was the reply:

UntitledYou’re right about me not knowing as well on DC as Marvel, but as far as I can see with the patterns of their release they don’t do as much Omnibus type releases of modern books as they do of classic books. The most recent one that’s being published, if I can recall correctly, is of Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern run early next year, and even then it’s only after the run concluded. That said, I feel the most likely of these to happen would be Azzarello’s WW run since it’s about to conclude (I think with issue #34).

Sorry I can’t gave that positive of an answer, but I’m in the same camp as you as far as hoping on these things to happen.

As we know, the run actually ended on #35 and this review has some thoughts on the issue too:

Without a doubt, this will go down as one of the best Wonder Woman stories of all time as well as one of the best stories to come out of the New 52. Everything just works well here, and it feels like it will work even better in a collected edition of this book. Hopefully, DC will put this story into an over-sized hardcover omnibus, most likely in two volumes.

UntitledThat is actually the general sentiment from around the traps, and around here too:

      1. It was an amazing run and totally deserves an Omnibus
      2. If it happens there’s a good chance it will be in two volumes, akin to the Seven Soldiers collection.
      3. There’s a good chance it won’t purely because DC isn’t huge on the Omnibus format these days and even less so on giving Diana the spotlight she deserves.

That said, her 75th anniversary is coming up in 2016 and it would be nice to see the amount of effort and noise that went into Superman and Batman’s big years to go into hers – would be a perfect time to launch a book, don’t you say?

Some have voiced concerns that if they do collect the whole run it would be huge but we don’t know anything about it. Yes, it could be cumbersome and crap, but it could be really well done so why judge it already? The Infinite Crisis Omnibus is massive but still reads really well. It’s also a perfect blunt object if you even need to kill a New God ;)

Hope this was helpful! :)
